Welcome Back!

A Cherished Tradition

One of Sacramento’s oldest and most popular running events has certainly undergone its share of changes since its inception in 1977 but a couple of things will never change. It will always take place in beautiful William Land Park on the first Sunday of October each year.

In 2005 we added one more feature that is now a part of the race’s rich tradition: Cows. Sure they may not be elegant or terribly sophisticated, but you have embraced our cows for the past 5 years and opted to keep them in the picture when we shared our “Cowtown” re-naming dilemma.

A Bright Future

So, where does that leave us? Is this our 1st, 6th, or for that matter, 34th Annual Run? We'll admit we struggled with this question but, ultimately, came to the conclusion that, since the cows have been around for 6 years, this will be our . . .

"6th Annual Urban Cow Half Marathon"

Ok, wait. What? Half Marathon? Yes, that’s right. It may be half as long but twice as good in so many ways!

A Word about the Cows

We gave them the good news, they signed on to go from cowtown to downtown, but we seemed to have over-estimated their sense of direction. We put their image on our new storefront in an attempt to help get them at least as far as midtown. So far, no sightings. But, no worries, we are open for business. You worry about Registering before we reach our limit and we’ll worry about locating our wayward cows!

We hope you’re looking forward to another exciting event this year because that’s just what we have in store!

See You on Race Day!
